Scoil Mhuire Junior in Blakestown celebrated the opening of its new school geodome at an event held at the school this week. In 2019, Scoil Mhuire Junior won the Gala Gifts for Schools competition and was awarded a cash prize of €10,000 from Gala Retail as the winner of the ‘Best Eco Project’ category with its winning idea of having a geodome built in the school garden for its pupils.

Geodome

The geodome was completed in April 2021 and has been a huge success for the school. Since its opening, pupils from each class have been spending time in the geodome learning about gardening and sowing plants, fruits, and vegetables that they hope to harvest ahead of Summer.

Tony Cluskey  joined the school and its pupils and guests for the official opening event of the geodome.
